Unleashing the Potential of our Health Workforce
Scope of Practice Roadshow 2024

7 February - 27 February 2024

The Scope of Practice Review is holding its Phase 2 consultation in early 2024.
Issues Paper 1 will be released in January with a call for public submissions
and an intensive month of consultation roundtables in each state and territory to follow.

Each roundtable is an opportunity for key stakeholders to come together,
comment on Issues Paper 1, and advise and shape the next steps of the Review.

We are looking for expressions of interest from health professionals, regulators, insurers, and others
with an interest in primary care to join us for these key events.

The Scope of Practice Review is a key action stemming from the Strengthening Medicare Taskforce Report, which outlined priority recommendations to improve primary care in Australia.

The Scope of Practice Review is looking at current models of care against community needs. It is exploring the available evidence of the benefits, risks, barriers and enablers for health practitioners working to full scope of practice. The focus for the review is the views and perspectives of:

  • general practitioners
  • nurses, including nurse practitioners, registered nurses and enrolled nurses
  • pharmacists
  • midwives
  • consumers
  • allied health practitioners
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health practitioners and health workers
  • paramedics

Its findings, including recommendations and an implementation plan, will be given to Government in the second half of 2024. More information about the process and timings for the review is available on the website.
