On 27 to 29 September 2023, the Department of Health and Aged Care hosted the inaugural Primary Care Conference (PCC), taking place at the QT Hotel in Canberra on Ngunnawal Country.
The PCC provided an opportunity for primary care leaders including Primary Health Networks, Commonwealth and state/territory officials, peak body representatives, health practitioners, academics and consumers to reconnect in person following the COVID-19 pandemic. The conference aimed to support a national dialogue on primary care. This included promoting stakeholder collaboration to address key challenges and achieve strategic alignment in the context of broader health system policy and initiatives.
Each day of the conference focused on a key thematic stream, aligning with primary care reform priorities and conference objectives:
On 2 to 4 September 2024, the Department of Health and Aged Care hosted Primary Care Conference 2024,
which took place at the National Convention Centre Canberra in Canberra on Ngunnawal Country.
The conference proved a resounding success in supporting a national dialogue on primary care,
collaborating to tackle key policy challenges, and sharing learnings and innovations.
Key themes examined over the course of the conference included: the National Health Reform Agreement;
addressing fragmentation and place-based policy; integration of primary care; emergency management;
data and innovation; and, workforce challenges.
On 23 and 24 March 2026, the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing hosted Primary Care Conference 2026,
at the National Convention Centre Canberra in Canberra on Ngunnawal Country.
Bringing together 428 stakeholders, the conference featured presentations and interactive workshops covering
key themes including the National Health Reform Agreements (NHRA), Thriving Kids, mental health,
data and digital innovation, multidisciplinary team-based care and cross sector engagement.
The conference built on the success of previous events, fostering robust discussion
and strong stakeholder engagement on key policy challenges facing the primary care sector.
