Primary care is the foundation of our healthcare system, providing care in communities and connecting Australians to specialised medical care when needed.
Primary care is a broad sector, with many individuals, teams, practices and health centres all making significant contributions to the health of Australians, while championing patient benefit.
Eligibility for the Stronger Medicare Awards is also broad and includes, but is not limited to the following:
Nominations must be submitted through the dedicated awards online platform, available through the Department of Health and Aged Care’s (“the department’s”) website. Nominations submitted via other methods will not be accepted or assessed.
Nominees must understand and agree to the Conditions of Entry, Publicity Consent and Privacy Notice, as well as meeting the assessment criteria.
If you are nominating someone else, you must ensure that the nominee agrees to being nominated. You must ensure the referee has read, and agreed to, the Conditions of Entry, Publicity Consent and Privacy Notice and consents to you providing their personal information to the department.
Additionally, if you include information about a referee, the referee must have agreed to be a referee. You must ensure the referee has read, and agreed to, the Conditions of Entry, Publicity Consent and Privacy Notice and consents to you providing their personal information to the department.
Nominees must be 18 years or older as of 8 March 2024.
All information and claims included in the nomination statement must be true and correct.
Organisation nominees must provide their Australian Business Number.
Nominees and referees may be contacted to clarify information provided in written statements.
All or part of any non-confidential material or details which support your nomination may be used online, in any broadcast and print media and in a range of publicity and promotional materials related to the promotion of the awards unless requested.
Finalists may be filmed or photographed at the awards which may be used online, in any broadcast and print media and in a range of publicity and promotional materials related to the promotion of the awards unless requested.
Your nomination statement must:
If a nomination does not meet the eligibility requirements of the awards it will not be considered.
The nomination statement should include relevant information in response to the assessment criteria. It should not be assumed that members of the Nomination Committee or Expert Panel will have a detailed knowledge of the area in which the nominee works, or a full understanding of any achievements.

By submitting a nomination you consent to and authorise the collection, use and disclosure by the department and its Minister, employees, contractors and agents of any photographs, footage, words, images, quotes or other comments taken at the Stronger Medicare Awards. This may identify you and other personal information about you, collected (“the Material”) for the purposes of promoting and publicising the Stronger Medicare Awards.
You consent to and authorise the Material being made publicly available including by publishing as part of promoting and publicising the Stronger Medicare Awards, including on public websites and any other media at any time.
You understand that once the Material is published that it will be in the public domain and that the department, and its Minister, employees, contractors and agents are limited in their ability to prevent subsequent use and dissemination of that Material even if information about you in it has ceased to be true or is otherwise misleading at the time of its use. To the extent (if any) you own intellectual property rights in the Material or any part of the Material, you license the department, and its Minister, employees, contractors and agents to copy and disseminate them in accordance with this consent.
You agree that the department and its Minister, employees, contractors and agents:
You understand that you are not entitled to any remuneration or any other payment in respect of the use by the department and/or its Minister, employees, contractors and agents of the Material.
You understand that the consequence of not providing consent will mean that the Material will not be used or disclosed and your nomination may not be accepted. You retain the right to withdraw the consent granted in writing at any time prior to publication of the Material.
The department is collecting your personal information for the purposes of assessing and awarding the Stronger Medicare Awards.
If the department does not collect your personal information, you will not be able to participate in the Stronger Medicare Awards (e.g. you will not be able to nominate someone, be nominated or provide a reference).
We will disclose your personal information to members of the Nomination Committee and Expert Panel, who are subject to strict confidentiality obligations. We may also publicly disclose some of your personal information as part of publicising the Awards.
The department’s privacy policy includes more information about how the department handles personal information, and how you can request access to, or correction of, the personal information the department holds about you or make a privacy complaint.
If you provide any sensitive information to us, by providing that information you consent to the department collecting that information for the purposes indicated above. Ordinarily, in limited circumstances where the Department discloses personal information to an overseas recipient, Australian Privacy Principle (APP) 8.1 requires the Department to take reasonable steps to ensure that the overseas recipients does not breach the APPs. However, if you consent to the publication of the Material set out in the ‘Publicity Consent’ section above by submitted a nomination, APP 8.1 will not apply to this disclosure. The Department will not be accountable under the Privacy Act for any subsequent use or disclosure of the submission by an overseas recipient, and you will not be able to seek redress under the Privacy Act.
All finalists will receive a framed certificate. Award recipients will receive a trophy, with one trophy presented on behalf of a team (if applicable).
Awards will be presented at a ceremony in Canberra in November 2024.
Individual finalists, or up to two representatives from team finalists will be provided economy travel to Canberra and accommodation arranged and paid by the Department of Health and Aged Care to attend the Awards Ceremony.
